{"id":1177978,"date":"2025-01-23T12:43:26","date_gmt":"2025-01-23T20:43:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.moviemaker.com\/?p=1177978"},"modified":"2025-01-28T09:35:49","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T17:35:49","slug":"el-dorado-film-festival-william-ragsdale-fright-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.moviemaker.com\/el-dorado-film-festival-william-ragsdale-fright-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Fright Night Anniversary Screening to Kick Off El Dorado Film Festival With Star William Ragsdale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The El Dorado Film Festival will kick off this year with a special 40th anniversary screening of the horror classic <em>Fright Night<\/em> \u2014 featuring star William Ragsdale, an El Dorado native.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ragsdale, whose credits also include <em>Search Party<\/em>, <em>Justified<\/em> and <em>Herman&#8217;s Head<\/em>, got his start in a West Woods Elementary School production of <em>Charlotte&#8217;s Web<\/em> in El Dorado, a southern Arkansas city with a strong artistic bent. He graduated from El Dorado High School, then Hendrix College, before breaking into Hollywood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eldofilmfest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The festival<\/a>, which will include <em>MovieMaker <\/em>in attendance, takes place February 26th-March 2nd at the South Arkansas Arts Center. The film lineup includes H. Nelson Tracey&#8217;s <em>Break Up Season<\/em>, starring Chandler Riggs (<em>The Walking Dead<\/em>) and Wendy Lobel\u2019s documentary <em>Anxiety Club<\/em>, featuring Marc Maron, Mark Normand, Aparna Nancherla and more. It will also feature the top films from the Louisiana Film Prize in nearby Shreveport, Louisiana, one of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moviemaker.com\/50-film-festival-worth-entry-fee-2024\/\">50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 El Dorado Film Festival line-up also includes J.C. Doler&#8217;s <em>The Fetch<\/em> and Terre Weisman&#8217;s <em>Max Dagan<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLast year\u2019s El Dorado Film Festival left me feeling inspired,\u201d said executive director Alexander Jeffery. \u201cWe received over double the submissions this year and we are putting together an event that I think people in the community and surrounding area will really enjoy. There is plenty more to announce in the coming weeks, but for now I am absolutely thrilled to share this incredible line-up of films that we have the great fortune of showcasing next month.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Louisiana Film Prize block includes \u201cSex Date\u201d (the Film Prize winner), \u201cMost Likely to Succeed,\u201d \u201cNapoleonic Code,\u201d \u201cToots\u201d and \u201cThree Sessions\u201d (directed by El Dorado native Erica Michelle Singleton and<br>starring El Dorado native Moriah Hicks, who won for Best Performance at Film Prize).<br><br>Tamra Corley Davis, chair of the film committee, celebrated the work of the EDFF and the Film Prize in uplifting the regional film scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur partnership with the Louisiana Film Prize is one that Alexander and I have been fortunate to see continue to grow each year, and the slate of films that came from the 2024 Prize Fest has something for everyone!\u201d she said. \u201cWe love our Prize family of filmmakers and are excited to showcase the Top 5 films, including the winner of the $50,000 top prize, during programming on Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Louisiana Film Prize and the Shreveport film community is a family that we at the El Dorado Film Festival are proud to be a part of. Ness<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival&#8217;s Southern Made Film Block includes \u201cThe Artiste,\u201d \u201cConnected,\u201d \u201cThe Heart of Texas,\u201d \u201cLove Is Neat,\u201d \u201cMiniature Life,\u201d \u201cTitty Boy,\u201d \u201cThe Stage\u201d (directed by Junction City native Jeremy Enis) and \u201cFast\u201d (directed by Smackover native Clayton Henderson). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other short films include \u201cCanary,\u201d \u201cThe Captives,\u201d \u201cThe Chain,\u201d \u201cDeliberate,\u201d \u201cDetox,\u201d \u201cDonor,\u201d \u201cDinosauria, We,\u201d \u201cDraft Night,\u201d \u201cHelp Is\u2026On the Way?,\u201d \u201cNot Afraid,\u201d \u201cThe Owl,\u201d \u201cThe River,\u201d \u201cSaint Christopher,\u201d \u201cStart Them Young,\u201d \u201cTandem,\u201d \u201cThey Call Me the Tattoo Witch\u201d and \u201cPasture Prime\u201d (which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival).<br><br>Cash awards presented to the winners include the categories Best of Fest ($1,500), Pam Callaway Spirit of the Festival Award ($1,000), Best Narrative Feature ($500), Best Documentary ($500), Best Short Drama ($500), Best Short Comedy ($500), Best Arkansas Short ($500) and Best Southern Made Short ($500).<br><br>Established in 2014, the El Dorado Film Festival offers a curated selection of independent cinema to audiences in El Dorado.
